Jan. 8, 2009

MARIETTA, Ohio —The Marietta College women’s basketball team fell to the visiting Muskingum College Fighting Muskies, 78-55, on Thursday (Jan. 8) night at Ban Johnson Arena. The game was moved to Thursday due to a power outage on the Marietta College campus Wednesday (Jan. 7). The loss dropped Marietta’s record to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Muskingum improved its record to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC.

Muskingum jumped out to an early 12-6 lead with 8:25 into the first half. Marietta captured the lead, 17-15, after senior Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) hit a pair of free throws with 6:42 to play before halftime. Driscoll’s free throws were part of a 13-0 run by the Pioneers, giving them a 23-15 lead with four minutes left on the first half clock. Muskingum, however, answered with an 18-4 run to close out the half and take a 33-27 lead into the locker room.
