Art Smith
Adjunct

Art started his journalism career working part-time as a photojournalist for The Marietta Times.

Through the years Art has developed a very diverse range of editorial talents, including designing, photography, Web design, writing and editing. He has served as Staff and Chief Photographer, Presentation Editor, News Systems Editor, and News Editor for The Marietta Times. He is currently the Online Manager for The Parkersburg News and Sentinel and The Marietta Times. He has also set up several Web sites for other newspapers owned by the Ogden Newspaper Company, including the Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune, , The News Journal in Martinsburg, WV, The Inter-Mountain in Elkins, W.V. and The Times Leader in Martins Ferry. He also manages the WVweb, a design and hosting company owned by Ogden.

Art is a 1983 graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Journalism. He held internships at The Marietta Times, The Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune, The Modesto (California) Bee and the Mesa (Arizona) Tribune. Art also received a master's in 2005 from Marietta College's M.A.L.L. program.

He has won more than 50 Ohio Associated Press Society of Ohio awards, including 19 first places in photography, illustrations, informational graphics and layout. He has also won several Gannett Well Done Awards. In 2003 and 2004 he won the Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon Director's Award for his efforts in organizing the event that attracts more than 1,000 runners.

He has served as an adjunct instructor with the Mass Media Department since 1993, teaching Desktop Publishing, Advanced Desktop Publishing and Web Design.

A native of Gainesville, Florida, Art has lived in the Marietta area since 1975. He is married to Instructor Lori Smith and has two daughters.
