Meeting Minutes

Present: Craig Howald, Debbie Stodberg, Barbara MacHaffie, Sharon Douglass, Frank Diller, Eric Fitch, Laura Little

Minutes from last meeting approved and accepted.

 

Old Business

 

TIG information is now on the web – November 15 is the deadline for submitting proposals

Laura will have Debbie Stodberg bounce out a reminder about TIG submissions.

TIG’s will be awarded the end of the first week of December.

 

Library Committee/TAG group info/minutes was added to the web.

 

Department improvements grants/workshops – money available for this – proposals should be submitted by November 15 - $2500 available for each workshop this would be for the workshop/travel/other expenses. – These workshops should have a multimedia/technology aspect.

Discussion followed about types of workshops - Modern Language using one for workshop – types that have already been done such as Plagiarism with the Writing Center and the possibility of piggybacking with 2+ departments hosting a workshop

 

Laptop results – Residential/Freshmen – two separate statistics coming in – freshmen separate from the general population and one with entire population including freshmen.  – Shows 93% of freshmen bring computers to campus 66% of those are laptops – 92% of entire campus brings computers to campus 52% of those are laptops

 

Because of specialized software for certain majors it would remain necessary to continue to have and support labs on campus.

 

OCDE proposals – Laura is gathering these proposals – please encourage colleagues to consider this. Conference will be held over spring break.

Problem with IT webpage has been corrected.

Cdigix site problems – Diller will check on webpage w/shareware products/GIS software central location/spyware

Microsoft Office is permitted for home use by faculty. Home use is covered under license.

Blog training TBA – how to use Blog for class use

 

Discussion – Barbara MacHaffie brought up issue of backing up C drive. Can we have training for this?

 

Departments to submit their own Technology Improvements grants to bring in consultants at end of year. If none have been received then the Provost and Laura will decide what will be best for the entire campus (consultant/workshop/etc). They encourage suggestions.

 

Discussed security issues – making sure doors are closed so equipment is secure.
