Chair of Modern Languages
Director of ESL

Ph.D. in Linguistics, SUNY at Stony Brook, New York
In order to succeed in studying in the United States, you need to:
·Read academic English
·Understand lectures
·Participate in class discussion
·Write well-organized, grammatically correct English
·Speak and understand informal American English
The ESL Program at Marietta College will help you achieve these goals.
When you arrive on campus, English language proficiency is assessed. If new students need to take ESL courses, they are placed in a level of ESL to fit their specific needs.
Students with a higher level of English proficiency may not be required to take ESL courses, but they may want to take advantage of the special Support Level Courses we offer.
