Campus Writing Center

Marietta College's Campus Writing Center provides a collaborative, supportive, and instructional environment where students work closely with peer tutors to strengthen their college-level writing skills. We are committed to fostering growth and understanding in the writer, not just in the paper.

The Campus Writing Center is a place of learning, and is open to all students, faculty, and staff of Marietta College who desire to improve their writing confidence and self-editing skills. Writers seeking help with the conception, research, drafting, or revising stages of their paper are welcome.

Writing Center Scheduling Policy

1. Advanced appointments for tutoring are now only accepted through e-mail (mcwrite@marietta.edu).

2. In your e-mail, please provide the following information:

  • Name
  • Course / Instructor
  • Preferred Tutor
  • Preferred Appointment Times (Which day / date? 30 or 60 minutes?).
Make sure to provide options, as you may not receive your primary appointment time.
  • Also, please provide any additional context that might be helpful for your tutoring session (i.e. length of paper, research requirements, problems needing addressed, etc.)

3. Appointments must be made at least a day in advance during the school week.
Sunday and Monday appointments should be established by Friday (i.e. e-mail won’t be checked over the weekend).
Appointments can be made up to two weeks in advance.

4. Students will be limited to one 60-minute appointment / day.

5. Students will receive a confirmation e-mail regarding their desired appointment time.

6. If you cannot make your appointment, please let us know (mcwrite@marietta.edu).
If you fail to make your appointment without contacting the writing center, we will no longer accept appointments from you.

A sign-up sheet will still be available in the writing center (on a day-to-day basis) for drop-in assistance.

Our Tutors

The writing center is staffed with 15 undergraduate tutors who major in a diverse range of subjects (art, athletic training, biology, biochemistry, business, communication, education, English, geology, history, international leadership, political science and Spanish). Students are encouraged to work with a tutor in their subject area, especially for upper-level assignments.

Our tutors are not professional editors.

Their role is to help students work through some of the major weaknesses in their writing.
