Matriculation

The annual Matriculation ceremony marks a student’s formal enrollment in the College. The August event begins with the traditional procession of the faculty, in full academic robe. The Matriculation ceremony includes the Charge to New Students from the Dean of the Faculty as well as official greetings from the President, Dean of Students, the Mayor of Marietta and the President of Student Senate. The ceremony concludes with each student adding his or her name to the Marietta College Matriculation Book.

With summer break winding down, Marietta College’s new students will be formally welcomed to the Marietta College community through the annual Matriculation Ceremony to be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, on Fenton Court in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

This marks the seventh consecutive fall the College has matriculated at least 375 new students. Marietta College’s Office of Admission expects around 450 total new students to join the already more than 1,000 returning students enrolled in one of the 42 majors offered this fall.

The class of 2013, which is expected to be close to 400 freshmen, will begin arriving on campus earlier that day as the College welcomes them into their Residence Halls during the annual Freshman Move-in Day.

Following Matriculation, families and new students are invited to a reception to be held at the Kremer Amphitheatre. On Friday, Aug. 21, new students have a full day’s schedule that includes meeting each other in their new freshman seminar classes and a presentation by Delatorra McNeal in the Alma McDonough Auditorium where students will learn the 5 Ps of Collegiate Success. The day is capped off by "Casino Night," which takes place on a riverboat on the Ohio River. Students will enjoy food, music and casino games while onboard.

Orientation continues on Saturday with more Freshman Year Seminar Classes and Brent Scarpo’s program "Why Do You Hate Me?" an in-depth program focusing on ways to deal with the issues of hate on a college campus.
