The Marietta College class of 2009 were welcomed to campus Thursday, Aug. 18, during the traditional Matriculation Ceremony at 7 p.m. on Fenton Court in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
While Matriculation signifies the formal enrollment at MC, orientation activities begin at 2 p.m. Thursday with academic advising and registration in Andrews Hall Great Room, and continued until 9 p.m. Monday with a showing of the movie "Kicking and Screaming" in the Hermann Bowl.
New students started moving into the residence halls at 9 a.m. Thursday. Also on Thursday were residence hall meetings at 9 p.m. and illusionist Christopher Carter at 10 p.m. in the McDonough Center Auditorium. On Friday the students chose between a raft trip or Cirque du Soleil for the day's activities. On Saturday and Sunday, the students went through a number of seminars to prepare them for college life.
The students also enjoyed the annual "Taste of the City" at 6 p.m. Saturday in the DBRC, due to weather, as local restaurants prepared a dinner cuisine, and at 10 p.m. a Casino Night took place in the Gathering Place.
On Sunday the students enjoyed a continental breakfast at 9 a.m. and a class picture at 2:30 p.m. On Monday, Aug. 22, all classes got underway.
