Alumni Community Service Day April 10th, 2010

As Marietta College celebrates its 175th anniversary, there continue to be multiple opportunities for alumni to join in marking this significant milestone in the history of the institution. Since its charter in 1835, the College has maintained an ongoing interest in its community and instilling a sense of service in its graduates so that they may carry that same dedication and commitment to their own communities after joining The Long Blue Line of alumni.

In recognition of this long-standing commitment and core value, Marietta College invites you to join in the first Alumni Community Service Day set for Saturday, April 10, 2010. Thanks to a 175th anniversary mini-grant, the McDonough Center for Leadership and Marietta College Career Center are able to build upon the College’s own community service day in the Mid-Ohio Valley and reach out to include you in an affirmation of what makes our College community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni so special.

How You Can Participate

The McDonough Center for Leadership and Career Center invite you to join with our current students, faculty and staff to make Saturday, April 10, 2010 a day of service throughout the Marietta community and across the country.

Even as our own campus groups reach out to neighbors here in southeast Ohio, we encourage you to do the same wherever you happen to be. Currently, we have identified a dozen metropolitan areas and designated coordinators to help rally Pioneers in support of a local community service project. That list includes:

If you’d like to join community service projects on Saturday, April 10th in those cities, please register today to join in this special observance of Pioneer Pride and community spirit. It’s as easy as clicking on this link and once your registration is received, you’ll be contacted by your local coordinator with information on your local project, when and where to rally in April to roll up your sleeves and how to celebrate and have a good time while doing a good turn for your neighbors and community.

Here’s more good news. If you don’t see your city or area represented, we invite you to step forward and help us establish a Pioneer project in your community for this special day of service. If you’re interested, please contact project coordinator Amanda Dever and take a look at some possible community projects (link) that might encourage your Pioneer partners to join in this special day of service.

Celebrating Pioneer Spirit and Service

By the way, your coordinator will be working with us to let your community and other Pioneers know just how much your neighbors mean to us all. They’ll arrange for information to be shared with local media and each group will receive a commemorative Marietta College banner to help mark the occasion. Send us a group photo so that we can share it with other alumni around the world.

Refreshments will be provided courtesy of your Marietta College Alumni Association.
