Computer Science
Marietta's major in computer science takes you beyond learning programming languages. With a foundation in physics, mathematics, and computer science -- and electives like digital electronics and numerical analysis -- your education will give you the knowledge and the background you need to engineer software, design computer architectures, and understand every layer of a computing system. Outside the classroom, you'll learn what the industry is really like as you work alongside faculty members on consulting projects for area businesses.
Our System Development Project course, the senior capstone experience, is your chance to show what you can do. Working as part of a team, you'll develop a real information system for a real client. This is the perfect opportunity for you to apply everything you've learned in your four years at Marietta.
Facilities
On campus, you'll have access to the latest tools for web-based instructional support, artificial intelligence, graphics, networking, prototyping and simulation, programming languages, mathematical and statistical analysis, CASE (Computer Assisted Software Engineering), database management systems, and decision support systems.

Places a Degree Can Take You
Internships
Our students put their skills to work on campus as well as off. They develop information systems for government agencies and web pages for Marietta's departments. They design web-based database interfaces and system-level software to improve security and performance of e-mail and other network transmissions. They also serve as database programmers for companies in the area.
Clubs & Organizations
Marietta sponsors a chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), which is open to any student interested in computers and their applications. ACM hosts national and international student research and programming competitions, and provides you with a network of nearly 75,000 information technology professionals.
Successful Alumni
Computer science majors leave Marietta and start their careers with some of the most prestigious computer corporations in the world, companies like IBM, NEC, Unisys, and DEC. Others have launched their own computer companies, and others work as consultants in the computer industry.
