Gifts of Stocks or Securities

A gift of appreciated securities you have held for more than one year provides an opportunity to take a federal income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift for up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income—and will not have to recognize the appreciation as capital gain.

Wills & Bequests

Many of our alumni, parents, and friends make their most significant gift to Marietta College by naming the College as a beneficiary through their will, trust, or other type of testamentary gift.

Testamentary gifts (also referred to as "bequests") are gifts that take effect at someone's death. Donors can simply name "Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio" as the beneficiary of a charitable gift contained in a will, revocable "living" trust, or on a beneficiary designation form for life insurance or a retirement account. For your convenience, sample bequest language is attached below to assist with your charitable gift planning.

Our Gift Planning staff is available at your convenience to assist you confidentially with your charitable gift planning.
