History

Before Marietta College had a governing student body, each class had their own President, Vice-President, Secretary, Field Captain, Prophet, and Poet. The class Prophet was an individual who was chosen by his or her peers as an individual who could predict each of their fellow classmates' futures and plans post graduation. It was a very fun and comical position to have, and it required the individual to personally know each of the members of the class. The class Poet wrote either the cheer/ fight song and the poem that was recited at events and graduation. The Poet had to encorporate events and significant memoirs within the cheers and poem that personalized their specific class. Marietta College's student-based governments and clubs are modeled after Williams College in Massachusetts.
