Dr. Rita Smith Kipp
Provost and Dean of the Faculty
Dr. Kipp joined Marietta College in July of 2007. She directs all functions related to undergraduate and graduate studies, the faculty, and the overall direction of the academic programs.
Prior to joining Marietta, Kipp was the Dean of the College at Sewanee: The University of the South from 2004-07. She is a nationally known scholar and author in the field of anthropology and the interdisciplinary field of Asian Studies.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Kipp received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the faculty at Kenyon College from 1976 to 2004, advancing through the ranks to full professor and serving as chair of the faculty on two occasions before moving into the role of Associate Provost in 2003.
Along with sterling credentials as a teacher, scholar, and faculty leader, Kipp has experience in the recruitment, hiring, evaluation and development of faculty; curriculum and academic policy development; assessment; grant writing; construction planning (a science building); and the development of Kenyon's Asian Studies Program. She has published four books and numerous articles in her field. |
