Dr. Lon Vickers
Vice President for Student Life and Dean of
Students
Dr. Vickers has 37 years of experience in student affairs
and higher education, including the past six at Marietta College.
He was promoted to Dean of Student Life in 2003 after four
years as the Associate Dean of Student Life and Leadership.
At Marietta, he is directly responsible for the direction
and management of a comprehensive student affairs program
serving 1,300 undergraduate students.
At Marietta, Dr. Vickers has participated on numerous committees,
including the McDonough Leadership Program Faculty Advisory,
Learning & Information Technology, and Campus Wellness.
He has also been a member of the National Association of Student
Personnel Administrators since 1979.
Prior to joining Marietta College, Dr. Vickers was the Vice
President for Student Affairs at Fitchburg State from 1982-90,
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs from 1979-82
and 1990-92, and Dean of Students (1977-79) and Associate
Dean (1976-77) at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Dr. Vickers has also worked as a Professor at Marietta, Fitchburg
State, Northeastern University, West Virginia Wesleyan and
Aims Community College.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from
the University of New Mexico, a Master of Arts in psychology
from Colorado State College and a Ph.D. in College Student
Personnel Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Vickers and his wife, Marke, have a grown daughter, Quinn
(BS, Otterbein College). Marke is the Director of Admission
at Marietta College. |
