Student Activities

Student activities are an important component to college life and there are numerous clubs and organizations that students can take advantage of for learning experiences outside the classroom. From academic clubs to special interest groups, students have opportunities to assume leadership roles and participate in community service that provides them an enriching experience in addition to their academic pursuits. For example:

  • Greek Life: About 20% of Marietta College students belong to fraternities and sororities, making Greek life a vibrant and visible part of the campus atmosphere. Greek organizations are recognized across the country for their strong bonds of friendship, commitment to service to others, and school spirit, especially during the weeks of Homecoming in the fall and Greek Week in the spring. Members lead via Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council, the governing bodies for all fraternities and sororities on campus.

  • Circle K: Circle K is one example of an on-campus community service organization that exists to meet the personal needs of the individual collegian through the qualities of leadership, the rewards of service, and the unique spirit of friendship. Circle K promotes those qualities necessary to shape the future and create the vision of humankind for generations to come.

  • McDonough Leadership Program: An essential part of the Donough Leadership Program is service learning, where the students witness civic responsibility and leadership in practice and application. The experiential education component assists students in developing leadership skills such as team building, decision-making, and problem-solving. Students develop personal capacities in interpersonal relations, project planning, and leading teams to accomplish goals. Most importantly, students learn how change is fostered in communities and the role of citizens in creating that change. Students have served in local organizations such as Marietta Middle School, Marietta YA, the O’Neill Senior Center, Habitat for Humanity, and EVE, the battered women’s shelter. They have also served in international opportunities in places such as Australia, China, Mexico, the Philippines, and South Africa.

  • The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley offers Marietta College students the opportunity to connect with local business leaders on a professional level through periodic luncheon meetings which feature prominent business leaders and academic scholars as guest speakers. The invited speakers often visit individual classes and meet with students in a Q&A format. Recent speakers have included Sergei Khrushchev, Steven Forbes, and Ted Kennedy, Jr.
