Internships

Many academic departments promote internships as a valuable tool for applying classroom knowledge to on-the-job experience. Internship data collected for the past seven years indicate an average of 97 students per year participate in an internship experience for academic credit, or approximately 9% of the student population. Even more students participate in paid internships but do not receive academic credit. For example, nearly all Petroleum Engineering students gain summer employment in the petroleum industry. Each department generally monitors its internship program. The Associate Director of the College’s Career Center is charged with developing internships and assisting students in the internship search process. Internships are also available through The Research Experience for Undergraduates program, a National Science Foundation program that funds summer research internships for undergraduate students, primarily from colleges without graduate science programs.
