Marietta College is committed to offering programs of in-depth study that prepare students for both challenging careers and admission to well-respected graduate and professional schools. Marietta College offers majors, minors and other academic programs in those select areas that are consistent with the mission of the College and where it has the expertise and resources to meet or exceed baselines of excellence.
Graduate Programs
Master of Arts in Corporate Media
Mission:
To provide students with the intellectual and professional skills that will allow them to pursue meaningful careers in Corporate Media, Public Relations, Integrated Marketing Communication or other related professional fields.
Goals
- Students will learn both theoretical and practical perspectives in the three primary areas of the program: Mass Media, Graphic Design and corporate Communications.
- Students will acquire an advanced understanding of research methods and techniques of data collection and analysis commonly used in mass media, graphic design, and corporate communications.
- The MACM will provide students with the professional knowledge and skills needed by 21st century corporate media professionals.
Master of Arts in Education
Mission
The Marietta College Education Department strives to develop graduate students who are prepared to make a positive, lasting impact on schools, communities, and the lives of children.
The mission of the Marietta College Education Department is to prepare "Educator Leaders for 21st Century Schools" by providing candidates with the experiences necessary to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to facilitate student learning. This mission coincides with the Marietta Collage goal to graduate students who are adept at critical analysis, problem solving, and the leadership skills required to translate what is learned into effective action.
Goals
Through its Master of Arts in Education program for licensed classroom teachers, the education department endeavors to provide candidates with the experiences which will enable them to become educator leaders who:
- Empower students to learn through the use of effective pedagogy, assessment tools, and appropriate technologies.
- Demonstrate content knowledge in their disciplines and model the knowledge, skills, and dispositions they expect of their students.
- Demonstrate efficacy by taking responsibility for student learning, holding high expectations for all students, respecting student diversity, and making accommodations to ensure that all students learn.
- Act as change agents who are willing to try new approaches to solve problems and who are willing to take risks to challenge the status quo.
- Develop professional relationships which enable them to collaborate with colleagues, families, communities, and professional organizations for the purpose of facilitation student learning.
- Exhibit characteristics of lifelong learning, including the development of short and long term professional goals, reflective practice, action research, and ongoing professional development.
Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
Mission: To help meet the need for qualified health care providers.
Goals: To provide a curriculum that builds the cognitive, clinical, interpersonal and professional skills needed for supervised practice of medicine as a physician assistant.
Master of Arts in Psychology
Mission
To provide students with an excellent graduate education in the area of general psychology, as well as offering students the opportunity for advanced study in the area of clinical, cognitive, social, or developmental psychology.
Goals:
- Students will learn the primary questions, theoretical perspective, empirical findings, and methods of investigation in the core subfields of psychology (i.e. social, developmental, cognitive, clinical.)
- Students will acquire an advanced understanding of the scientific method, including the types of research methods, and techniques of data analysis commonly used in psychology.
- The program will provide students with the professional knowledge, skills and experiences needed in doctoral graduate programs or needed in careers related to psychology.
