Using an IRA to Make a Gift to Marietta College
Sometimes finding just the right way to support your alma mater can be quite a challenge.
Things just got quite a bit easier thanks to recent legislation that now allows for certain individual retirement account, (IRA), distributions to be excluded from gross income when calculating your tax liability.
Thanks to the IRA rollover measure, certain distributions for qualified charities of up to $100,000 can earn the exemption, but your opportunity is available only through 2007 and only if you are age 70½ or older.
In order to qualify, the distribution must be made directly from the Trustee of an IRA account to Marietta College and donors will need to check with their IRA Trustee or advisor before moving forward with their rollover gift to ensure proper credit and tax benefit.
For more information on how you may be eligible for this limited benefit or for details on other estate gift options, call 800-274-4704 or email giving@marietta.edu.
