Leaving the Rudy Giuliani campaign office in Manchester at 9 p.m. was considered an early wrap to a day that started at 9 a.m. Marietta College interns Will Ritter '09, Joel McKinney '08 and Mickey Hart '08 were headed back to their host family's Amherst home. They had moved into the home of Charles and Rolinda Vars a few days earlier, after having stayed with their field supervisor, David Chesley, during their first five days in New Hampshire. The trio didn't want to leave the office too soon. "We really don't want to miss what's going on here," McKinney said. Mrs. Vars had prepared a colorful Mexican feast for her surrogate sons that night. "Our host parents are great," McKinney added. "There's always a meal waiting for us and they like to talk about the campaign and how our day went." Ritter appreciated how involved his host family was with the local chapter of the Lions Club and the Republican Party. "I do plan to keep in contact with my host family," Ritter says. "I learned that they were very active in local politics. They are very informed and very intelligent." |
