2010 graduate’s design selected for President’s Holiday Card

Each spring, at a time that may be difficult to get into the holiday spirit, Marietta College President Jean Scott holds a contest for students to design her annual Holiday Card.

Steven Hollis ’10 (Little Hocking, Ohio) didn’t have any problems getting into the spirit of things, as his submission was selected and will soon be mailed out by Scott.

“My driving goal with the Holiday Card was to challenge President Scott to select a design that didn’t center on photography,” said Hollis. “Of course I did not want the subject matter to focus on a specific religion. My favorite part of the piece is the subtle change to the school logo to include holiday lights on the school building.”

Tori Taylor ’10 (New Matamoras, Ohio) designed the runner-up card, and her submission is being used by the College’s Advancement Office as part of a donor mailing this holiday season.

For their efforts, both Hollis and Taylor received $100 gift cards of their choice.

“My wife and I used the gift card to help buy a treadmill,” Hollis said. “Now all I need is the motivation to use the thing more than a couple times a week.”

Designs submitted during the contest must represent the spirit of Marietta College and can include the grounds, buildings and logo of the College. Any medium may be used and the design must fit to a 5x7 card.
