Associate Professor appointed to Ohio Legal Rights Service Commission

Dr. William Bauer, an associate professor in Marietta College's Department of Education, was recently appointed to the Ohio Legal Rights Service (OLRS) Commission.

Bauer is one of seven people currently on the commission. The commission was created in 1986 by the Ohio General Assembly and is the governing body of the OLRS.

The OLRS is an independent state agency and federally and state designated Protection and Advocacy system and Client Assistance Program for children and adults with disabilities in the State of Ohio. Their mission is to protect and guarantee the human, civil, and legal rights of Ohioans with disabilities.

Bauer's appointment is a three-year term and he plans to make the most of it. "I have been given the charge to develop a five-year strategic plan for the organization," he said.

Bauer has been at Marietta College since 2002 and he continues to stay active in various projects concerning people with disabilities in education.
