Associate Professor gives keynote at Ohio River Conference
Marietta College Associate Professor Dr. Eric J. Fitch, Director of the Environmental Science Program, recently gave the opening plenary presentation at the 2009 ORBCRE (Ohio River Basin Consortium for Research and Education) at Hanover (Ind.) College.
The theme of the conference was “Making Connections: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Ohio River Basin.” Former Marietta College Provost and Hanover College President Dr. Sue DeWine greeted the conference participants and welcomed them to campus.
Fitch’s presentation focused on the impacts of global climate change and the necessity for governments in the Ohio River Basin to develop strategies to respond to these changes. Fitch gave special emphasis to demographic shifts in global and national populations (environmental refugees) and the necessity for long-term infrastructural investments in the Ohio Valley.
