Beautiful day makes dedication ceremony for new soccer field special
Marietta College officials couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to dedicate the soccer field along Greene Street than what they got Saturday, Oct. 1.
Dr. Jean Scott, Marietta's President, and soccer coach Patrick Holguin each spoke about the stunning complex and thanked everyone who helped make the new Marietta Field happen.
The College also welcomed three families - Bob and Nancy Gessner (Chairpersons of the Parents Campaign for the Fields Project), Chris and Debbie Zourdos (Soccer Captains) and Tom Maddox - who played key leadership roles in raising the necessary money for the construction of the soccer complex.
The new soccer field was part of a $2.2 million renovation and construction that also included Don Drumm Stadium and the new softball facility.
Both the women's and men's team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday against Ohio Northern. The Pioneer women improved to 10-0-1 with a 3-1 victory, while the men fell to 5-4 after losing 6-0 to the Polar Bears.
