College’s bookstore hires new store manager
When a few sputters of the white stuff hit campus in early November, it wasn’t such a shocking sight to one of the newest members of the Marietta College staff.
“I’m from Cleveland so I’m used to a lot of snow,” said Ashley Kazan, the new manager of the Marietta College Follett Bookstore.
Kazan was hired after former manager Chuck Atkins left the position on Nov. 4 after working for the Follett Bookstore for a decade.
She is a graduate of Kent State University and has a degree in fashion merchandising. In March, she will begin an online MBA program through Tiffin University. She was excited when she learned about the open position at Marietta.
“I was a manager trainee for Follett,” she said. “I’ve lived in Ohio my whole life so I wanted to stay close to home. I really like the small-town feel here and the campus is really beautiful.”
Though she was busy her first week going through the store’s inventory, she looks forward to settling into her new job and her new home.
“It is really my goal to get more involved with the students,” she said. “I want the bookstore to have more of a relationship with our students rather than just focus on faculty and staff, which is what often happens with college bookstores.”
Kazan lives in Belpre with her boyfriend and her two shih tzu dogs, Lily and Marley.
“I’m from a larger city that gets about 60 inches of snow every year, so I’m ready for less snow and to live in a tight-knit community,” she said. “I’ve heard a lot about the (Sternwheel) Festival and I’m looking forward to seeing what Marietta looks like during Christmas.”
The bookstore is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and closed Sunday. Hours of operation change during the holidays.
