College Bookstore has baseball championship gear available

Fans of the Etta Express can now express their pride a little better, thanks to memorabilia being sold in the College Bookstore.

Last week, Marietta won the NCAA Division III National Championship in Grand Chute, Wis., after besting Wheaton in a 7-2 win and finishing 5-1 in the series. It’s the team’s sixth national championship — the first back-to-back titles since the 1978-79 season.

Marietta resident Ronald Erb has followed the success of the Pioneers all year and is excited to see the team earn top honors.

“I’m just really proud of those guys winning back-to-back championships. I think it’s great that they were able to dig out of the losers bracket,” Erb said. “I think it’s really great for the community too.”

This week the Bookstore will start stocking up on memorabilia, starting with championship shirts.

“We’re hoping to get the new shirts with the new design by the end of the week,” Bookstore manager Chuck Atkins said.

Signed copies of Gary Caruso’s book, “Marietta College Baseball: The Story of the ‘Etta Express” will also be available in the Bookstore. Caruso ’71 is a successful sports journalist who chronicled the rise of Marietta College’s legendary team.

Additional items will be available online at www.bkstr.com.

The Bookstore will be open this summer for all campus visitors. Summer hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed Saturdays and Sundays.
