Esbenshade Series begins with ‘An Evening with Sojourner Truth’

Marietta College’s Esbenshade Series kicks off the 2011-12 season with “The Spirit calls me, and I must go:” An Evening with Sojourner Truth on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Kathryn Woods dramatically re-creates the life and words of this most remarkable woman. The program joins Sojourner Truth at the end of her life. She recalls her early days as a slave, details her relationship with God, and shares poignant stories of her days walking through this land.

Woods uses Sojourner's own words and the spiritual music she may have sung to recreate this inspiring woman.

All performances, unless otherwise noted, take place in the Alma McDonough Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Established through a generous gift in 1980, the series is endowed by the Frederica G. Esbenshade Memorial Fund. All performances are free and open to the public.
