'Get Tested! Week' scheduled for April 30 to May 6 at Marietta College
Marietta College's chapter of Student Global AIDS Campaign is sponsoring "Get Tested! Week" from April 30 through May 6.
The week's events are also co-sponsored by The American Red Cross and the Washington County Health Department.
There will be free and confidential HIV testing from 7-10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, and Thursday, May 4, in Andrews Hall at the College. The test requires an oral swab and no blood drawn. The health department is providing testing and counseling services.
The week begins with a car wash from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in the Hermann Fine Arts parking lot. This is organized to help raise money from the SGAC chapter.
On Monday is a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. in Hermann Fine Arts Center. Local names will be displayed on a project panel and light refreshments will be served.
The "Silent No More" demonstration will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, outside of Gilman Dining Hall. This is also being sponsored by Marietta's Rainbow Alliance as a way to break the silence on inequalities that people who are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender experience each day.
The week wraps with a Battle of the Bands music benefit from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 in the Hermann Bowl. There will be a $2 entrance fee. A bonfire will follow the concert.
