Kynkor, Haumesser named Marietta College Homecoming royalty

Marietta College seniors Nicolette Kynkor and Luke Haumesser were crowned Homecoming 2008 royalty during halftime of the Pioneers' football game against Muskingum on Saturday (Oct. 25).

The announcing of queen and king was just one of the many highlights in a weekend full of activities for students and alumni. Other memorable moments included special class receptions for the Classes of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993 and 1998, the induction of three new members into the Alumni Association's Hall of Honor, and the All-Alumni Dinner and Dance.

Another popular feature of the weekend was the Marietta on the Mall celebration before the football game, which drew more than 500 for food, fun and music. Sig Bust 2008 and the Alpha Sigma Tau gathering were also smash hits for alumni.

Alpha Xi Delta sorority nominated Kynkor, of North Canton, Ohio. Kynkor, daughter of Jim and Mary Kynkor of North Canton, Ohio, is a member of McDonough Student Advisory Council, Omicron Delta Kappa, EXCEL and is a senior interviewer for Admission. She is majoring in Human Resource Management with a minor in Leadership and Communication.

Erwin Knights nominated Haumesser, of Buffalo, N.Y. Haumesser, son of John and Carol Haumesser of Buffalo, N.Y., is Vice President of Student Senate and involved in Erwin Knights and Residence Life. He is majoring in Middle School Education with concentrations in Social Studies and Science.

Touka Akiyama
Akiyama, daughter of Yoko Akiyama of Osaka, Japan, is sponsored by Charles Sumner Harrison Organization. She is involved with many campus activities, including American International Association, Charles Sumner and the Office of International Programs. She is majoring in International Business and Marketing with a certificate in Leadership Studies.

Claire Berlin
Berlin, daughter of Tom and Becky Berlin of Weston, W.Va., is sponsored by Omicron Chi Theta. She is very active on campus, including Sisterhood Chair for Omicron Chi Theta, Senior Interviewer for Admission, McDonough Student Advisory Council and McDonough Leadership Mentorship Program. She is majoring in Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Leadership.

Diana Hackenburg
Hackenburg, daughter of Jeff and Emma Hackenburg of Clyde, Ohio, is sponsored by Chi Omega sorority. Her campus activities include Chi Omega, band, Student Senate, Academic Resource Center tutor, Leadership Teaching Assistant and Student Alumni Association. She is majoring in Environmental Science, Biology and Leadership.

Rachel Mecklenborg
Mecklenborg, daughter of Randy and Marla Mecklenborg of Cincinnati, Ohio, is sponsored by Sigma Kappa sorority. Her campus activities include Sigma Kappa, Up 'Til Dawn, Leadership and Tau Pi Phi. She is majoring in International Business Management and Economics with a minor in Spanish. She is also working on a certificate in Leadership Studies.

Rachel Powell
Powell, daughter of Don and Carol Powell of Rittman, Ohio, is sponsored by McCoy Residence Hall. Powell is a member of Hall Council, Circle K, Leadership, Pre-Law Society, Republicans on Campus and Wish Makers on Campus. She is majoring in International Business and International Leadership with a minor in Spanish.

Thaddeus Cochran
Cochran, son of Troy and Linda Cochran of Westerville, Ohio, is sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha. He is a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team and is majoring in Biology.

Mark Hirschfeld
Hirschfeld, son of Jerry and Leyla Hirschfeld of Pittsburgh, Pa., is sponsored by Delta Tau Delta. He is involved in many campus activities, including Delta Tau Delta, Student Alumni Association, Senior Interviewer for Admission, IFC President, Online Editor of The Marcolian and General of the PioArmy.
