Marietta’s Dr. Wehrman to appear on C-SPAN 3 Saturday, Jan. 17

Marietta College’s Dr. Andrew Wehrman is appearing on C-SPAN 3 at 9:20 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, as he’ll discuss smallpox in Revolutionary era America.

Wehrman, Assistant Professor of History, made a presentation — “Inoculations of John and Abigail Adams and the Politics of Smallpox in Revolutionary Massachusetts” — on Oct. 25 as part of the Abigail and John: 250 Years Together symposium in North Weymouth, Mass. For three days in October, the Abigail Adams Historical Society celebrated the 250th wedding anniversary of Abigail and John Adams.

Wehrman is a recipient of the 2008 Walter Muir Whitehill Prize in Early American History. His current book project, “The Contagion of Liberty,” examines the ways in which epidemic smallpox affected the political ideology and actions of ordinary Americans during the American Revolution.
