Marietta Forensics places 1st in debate sweepstakes at Novice tourney

Marietta College’s Forensics Team placed first overall in debate sweepstakes at the Ohio Forensics Association Novice State Tournament, which was held Jan. 30-31 in Athens, Ohio.

forensics-noviceThe teams of Eric Miranda ’15 (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) and Ryan Childers ’16 (Wheeling, W.Va.) and Clayton Evans ’17 (Salem, W.Va.) and Daley Buckwell ’16 (Northfield, N.H.) closed out the final round — tying for first and second, respectively.

Yi Yang ’20 (Beijing, China) and Chelsea Smith ’15 (Vincent, Ohio) placed fifth. Childers was the first place speaker, Miranda was second, Evans was fourth and Yi was fifth.

The Pioneers also placed first overall in the speech portion of the tournament for teams with smaller entries. Miranda placed fifth in Editorial Impromptu and sixth in Radio Broadcasting, Childers placed fourth in Editorial Impromptu, Latrice Nelson ’18 (Austintown, Ohio) placed third in Audition Monologue, and Elaina Eakle ’16 (Whipple, Ohio) and Elizabeth White ’16 (Crooksville, Ohio) placed seventh in Dramatic Duo.
