2007-2008
Established through a generous gift in 1980, the series is endowed
by the Frederica G. Esbenshade Memorial Fund to bring lectures,
performing artists, and programs in the humanities to the Marietta
community.

Martín Espada, Poet and Essayist

Martín Espada has been called "the Latino poet of his generation" and the "Pablo Neruda of North American authors." Much of his writing arises from his Puerto Rican heritage and his work experiences, ranging from bouncer to tenant lawyer and has garnered him repeated recognition including the Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement.
