Pagenhardt and Potter named Marietta’s 2008 Clyde Lamb Award winners
Seniors honored at Monday's OAC banquet

May 13, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) recently announced the 2008 Clyde A. Lamb Award winners, and Marietta College senior basketball standout Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and senior distance specialist Harrison Potter (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) were among the 10 female student-athletes and 10 male student-athletes, one from each of the Ohio Athletic Conference institutions, chosen for the prestigious honor.

All 20 Clyde A. Lamb Award winners were honored at the 24th annual OAC Awards Banquet on Monday (May 12) evening at the Holiday Inn in Worthington. Until 2004, a committee of athletics directors and faculty representatives selected a male and female from the 20 student-athletes to be awarded Clyde A. Lamb Scholarships after the banquet. Criteria for the award includes at least two years participation in an OAC-sponsored sport, senior status, a minimum grade point average of 3.00 and sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete and his or her institution.

Pagenhardt was a four-year letterwinner in women’s basketball and played two years of women’s tennis during her time at Marietta.

As a senior, Pagenhardt led the women’s basketball team and finished second in the OAC in scoring, averaging 17.0 points. The guard finished her career fourth all-time in scoring with 1,454 points and as the career leader in three-point field goal attempts with 380. Pagenhardt, a three-year captain, earned All-OAC second team honors as sophomore and All-OAC honorable mention as a freshman and senior. She was also a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, having received the honor in each of the last three years. In addition, Pagenhardt was named a third team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection in 2008.

The biology major entered her final semester at Marietta with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average. Pagenhardt was active as the secretary for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2005.

Potter was a four-year letterman in both cross country and track & field during his tenure with Pioneer athletics.

The distance runner was a captain for two seasons and served on the team’s leadership council throughout his running career. Potter holds the school record in the indoor Mile Run and is a member of the school-record holding indoor 4x800m Relay and indoor Distance Medley Relay teams. Potter earned Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2006 and Academic All-OAC in 2007; the 2008 Academic All-OAC honors will be released later this week. He also was also named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District in 2007 and was nominated again for the 2008 award, which will be announced later this spring.

The mathematics and physics major, a Rickey Physics Scholar, carried a 3.95 grade point average into his final semester at Marietta. Potter, who won the 2004 John G. McCoy Scholarship, was active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He also served as the Math Club President and treasurer of the Society of Physics Students.

The award, founded in 1985, is named in honor of Clyde A. Lamb. Lamb organized the department of health and physical education at Ohio Northern University in 1929, and served as a coach, department chairman and athletics director at ONU from 1929-64. He continued to teach full-time until his death in 1969. Lamb, who received his bachelor’s degree from Coe College in 1923 and a master’s degree from Columbia University in 1929, coached numerous sports at Ohio Northern during his tenure. In 1959, he was elected to the NAIA Helms Hall of Fame. He was honored as Ada’s Distinguished Citizen in 1956 and was inducted into Ohio Northern’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969.
