Mooney named OAC Pitcher of the Week
Senior goes 2-0 with a save in three appearances last week

Mar. 28, 2005
TWINSBURG, Ohio - Marietta College senior Mike Mooney (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) was named the Ohio Athletic Conferences (OAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 21-27).

The senior right-hander played an integral role in each of the Pioneers' three wins last week. Mooney threw eight straight innings of no-hit baseball against Mideast Region rival Ohio Wesleyan Tuesday. It took a pinch hit single in the top of the ninth to prevent Mooney from no-hitting the Battling Bishops for the second straight year, as he did not allow a hit in Marietta's 5-0 victory a year ago. The Etta Express won this year's game 15-0.

Mooney also made an appearance in both of the No. 5 ranked Pioneers' games against No. 18 SUNY-Brockport Saturday. He relieved fellow senior Justin Papania (Butler, PA) and got the final out in a 4-1 Marietta victory in game one and then started and blanked the Golden Eagles over two innings in the second game of the twin bill, in which Marietta won 11-2.

Overall, Mooney allowed just four hits, no runs and had four strikeouts. He improved to 5-0 on the year with a 1.50 ERA.

The Etta Express (12-3-1) as a team have won seven straight games since returning from its spring break trip to Port Charlotte, Florida. They are set to begin OAC play Tuesday (Mar. 29) when they visit Capital for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
