Marietta College welcomes Ohio Valley Redcoats to Pioneer Park
June 6, 2005
MARIETTA, Ohio – The Redcoats are coming!
No, it is not a sign of the British Army's invasion as it was when Paul Revere made his famous ride in 1775. Instead it is a call to Mid-Ohio Valley baseball fans to let them know that the Frontier League baseball team will be at Pioneer Park for six games, beginning Wednesday (June 8) at 7:05 p.m.
Action gets underway with a three-game series against the Chillicothe Paints from Wednesday through Friday (June 8-10).
Admission is $5 and tickets can only be purchased the night of the game at the front gate. All games have a 7:05 p.m. start except for Sunday's game which will start at 6:05 p.m.
The Redcoats, under the leadership of first-year Manager Mark Mason, will remain at Pioneer Park for a three-game series against the Washington Wild Things from Saturday through Monday (June 11-13). The Redcoats enter Monday's action with an overall record of 4-7.
The Ohio Valley Redcoats called Parkersburg, West Virginia its home from 1993-98. As one of the charter organizations of the Frontier League, the Redcoats had success early, dominating the league in 1994 with a 50-17 record.
The team's success began to decline in the late 1990s, and the decision was made to relocate the organization following the 1998 season. They were moved to Huntingburg, Indiana in 1999 and rechristened the DuBois County Dragons.
The Redcoats have moved four times since they last inhabited Bennett Stump Field in 1998. Most recently, they were the Springfield Ozark Ducks, located in Ozark, Missouri. The team is currently looking for a permanent home for the 2006 season.
In order to do so, the organization will play its entire season on the road, with three designated
home sites. The Redcoats held their spring training and played a three-game homestand to open the season in Lorain, Ohio. The team will also play game in Lafayette, Indiana during the month of July.
