May 26, 2006
APPLETON, Wisconsin — The 2006 NCAA Division III World Series
kicked off Thursday (May 25) evening with a banquet for the eight
teams at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel. Highlighting the festivities
were the announcement of the three Rawlings All-American Teams.
As has been the case in each of the last 32 years, Marietta had
representation on the prestigious list.
Junior pitcher Mike Eisenberg (Coral Gables, Fla./Bullis)
was honored with first team recognition, while senior left fielder/first
baseman Jarrod Klausman (Altoona, Pa.) picked up
third team honors.
Marietta has now produced 106 All-Americans since 1972. It is also
the 28th year that at least two Pioneers earned the honor in the
same season.
Eisenberg became the Pioneers' 55th first team selection. The Mideast
Region Pitcher of the Year and first team All-OAC selection enters
World Series play with an 11-2 record. Eisenberg currently has a
1.36 ERA, pitched eight complete games and struck out 115 in 99
innings this season. The lanky right-hander is the first All-American
to be named to the first team since Matt DeSalvo in
2003.
Klausman brings a .432 batting average into his first World Series
action. The first team All-Region and first team All-OAC performer
leads the 'Etta Express with 82 hits and four triples. He is also
second on the squad in runs scored (46), doubles (12) and runs batted
in (35). Klausman is currently on an 18-game hitting streak.
Marietta now has three All-Americans on its roster, with senior
Mike DeMark (Jeanette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) earning
second team All-American honors as a sophomore. Those three standouts
will lead the Pioneers into World Series action against Wis.-Stevens
Point this evening (May 26) at 8:45 p.m. All of the action can be
heard live on WMOA-AM 1490 and mariettaonline.com.
