Oct. 26, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — The 2006 Marietta College baseball team will receive its NCAA Division III National Championship rings Saturday (Oct. 28) night during a ceremony at halftime of the Pioneers' football game with Heidelberg at Don Drumm Stadium.

Marietta (43-11), under the direction of 1993 graduate Brian Brewer, went 4-0 and won the program's fourth NCAA Division III National Championship after a 7-2 victory over Wheaton (Mass.) in the Championship Game at Fox Cities Stadium in Grande Chute, Wis., on May 30.

The entire MC Baseball Fraternity as well as fans are invited to come watch Marietta College President Jean Scott present each team member with the jewelry, which features a the MC baseball logo on the face. In addition, one side of the band showcases Don Schaly Stadium and the year 2006, while the other includes the recipient's name with the team's final record 43-11.

The Etta Express, which won three national titles in the 1980s under the direction of the late Don Schaly, waited 20 years for the fourth title. Only Eastern Connecticut State has equaled Marietta's four crowns. The Pioneers also won the title in 1981, 1983 and 1986. It was the first time the Etta Express captured the nation's top prize away from the friendly confines of Marietta, Ohio.
