Marietta ranked
sixth NCAA Division III Regional Poll
Pioneers look to grab at least a share of regular
season title Saturday against Baldwin-Wallace on Alumni Weekend
May 3, 2007
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee
released the second NCAA Division III baseball poll of the spring,
and Marietta College was voted sixth in the Mideast Region. The
committee has ranked the top 15 percent of teams in each of the
eight regions with records as of April 29.
Marietta, ranked No. 30 in the current ABCA/Collegiate Baseball
Poll, (26-11) was 20-7 against in-region opponents at the time
of the voting. The Pioneers have since improved to 22-7 with wins
at Wittenberg, 19-9, and No. 23 Washington & Jefferson (Pa.),
4-1. The W & J Presidents were third in this week's Mideast
rankings.
No. 1 Wooster took over the top spot in the region, while No. 17
Otterbein was second, Transylvania (Ky.) fourth and Thomas More
(Ky.) fifth.
The Pioneers, who enter the final weekend in a three-way tie for
first place with rivals Heidelberg and Otterbein, still have a chance
to host the upcoming OAC Tournament. To do so, Marietta would need
to sweep its doubleheader with Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday (May
5) and have Heidelberg and Otterbein drop at least one game to Muskingum
and John Carroll, respectively.
Saturday's first pitch with Baldwin-Wallace is slated for 12 p.m.
because it is Alumni Weekend at Marietta. The action will be carried
live by WMOA-AM 1490. It can also be heard online at http://pioneers.marietta.edu/onlinebroadcasts.html
and live statistics of all home games are available by visiting

At 7:05 p.m. there will be an Alumni versus Junior Varsity game.
