Marietta's Cimino earns All-America honors from D3Baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings
Senior becomes 107th Pioneers All-American since 1972

May 22, 2009
MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College senior Cameron Cimino (Boardman) expected so much more from his senior baseball season.

While the Pioneers came up short on many of the team goals, Cimino can take a measure of pride knowing he achieved a personal goal.

Cimino, the 2009 Jack Rafeld Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player of the Year, was named first team All-America by the America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Rawlings and third team All-America by D3Baseball.com. Marietta has now produced 107 All-Americans since 1972.

"I'm pretty happy with the honor," he said. "I put in a lot of hard work over the years and I'm glad to see it pay off."

The third baseman was Marietta's top hitter in 2009 and came through with multiple clutch hits in leading the Etta Express to the championship game of the Mideast Regional Tournament. Marietta finished 2009 with a 32-17 record, missing out on the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship by one game after falling to Wooster 4-3 in the regional title game.

"It definitely wasn't quite the season we expected. Losing some of our key players forced us to make due and stick together and fight through parts of the season," Cimino said. "Our goal was to win the OAC and hopefully win the World Series. We didn't get to accomplish any of those. But considering some of the injuries and some of things we had to deal with we did a pretty good job."

Cimino was named to the OAC and Mideast Regional All-Tournament teams, as well as first team All-Mideast Region.

He is the 21st Pioneer to earn the Rafeld honor. The 2008 All-Mideast Region second team selection also received All-OAC first team honors for the second straight season. In 49 games, Cimino paced Marietta in batting average (.443), hits (81), doubles (19), triples (3), runs scored (57) and multiple-hit games (24). He finished second in home runs (11), RBI (47) and multiple-RBI games (15).

Cimino is the first Marietta player to earn All-America honors since Mike Eisenberg (first team) and Jarrod Klausman (third team) in 2006.
