MC cross country competes at OAC Championships

BEREA, Ohio - The Marietta College men's and women's cross country teams competed this afternoon at the 2004 OAC Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace. The men ran to a ninth-place finish, while the women placed tenth.

The men started the Championships off with an 8K run. Otterbein took the crown with 49 points, while Mount Union (57) and Heidelberg (83) finished second and third, respectively.

John Hull (Scott Depot, WV) placed 50th with a time of 29:43.83 to lead the Pioneers, who totaled 273 points on the day.

Clark Spears (Brunswick) finished in 30:01.96 to place 52nd, while Harrison Potter (Rochester, NY) crossed the line in 30:12.46 to finish 54th.

Andrew Wichie (Brunswick) (30:55.05/57th), Lyle Sulfridge (Vincent) (31:29.55/60th), Ben Williams (Marietta) (32:19.12/62nd) and Travis Shipe (Bethel Park, PA) (32:29.24/64th) rounded out the scores for Marietta. also running for the Pioneers was Alex Lugosch (Round Pond, ME) who finished in 34:25.29.

The Mount Union women capture the women's title with 43 points; Otterbein (50) and Baldwin-Wallace (81) followed in second and third place, respectively.

Lydia Christopher (Cypress, TX) ran the 6k in 26:46.07 to place 47th and lead Marietta to the line.

Emily Klodowski (Rochester, PA) finished 54th with a time of 27:21.82, while Valerie Niedermier (New Washington) (28:38.34/60th), Lyndley Dmitsak (Alquippa, PA)(28:53.09/61st) and Brea Gardner (Glenford) (29:15.99/62nd) rounded out the participants for Marietta. 

The squad will have a week off before the NCAA DIII Regional Championships, which will be held Saturday (Nov. 13) in Alma, Michigan.
