Marietta's Robertson named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team
Pioneer women also earn team award for sixth straight season

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2007 NCAA Division III USTFCCCA Women’s All-Academic Cross Country Teams Tuesday (Feb. 26), and Marietta College earned the honor for the sixth straight season. In addition, sophomore standout Randi Robertson (Avon Lake) became the first female in Pioneer history to be named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.

Robertson, finished 43rd at the Great Lakes Regional Meet on Nov. 7, 2007. She led Marietta to a 16th place finish overall by covering the 6K course in 23:20.35. It was the highest finish and fastest time ever for a Lady Pioneer at the regional level. Robertson, who maintains a 3.768 grade point average as a biology major, also earned All-OAC honors after finishing 11th at the Conference Championship on Oct. 27, 2007.

Pioneer women take 16th and men 26th

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Marietta College cross country program wrapped up its season Saturday (Nov. 10) afternoon with an impressive performance at the 2007 NCAA Division III Great Lake Regional Championships, which were hosted Calvin College. The Pioneer women opened the meet with an 16th place finish, and the men followed by placing 26th. Calvin swept the event, which featured 37 women’s teams and 38 men’s squads.

The Knights’ women, who collected 46 points, were followed by Case Western Reserve with 73 points and DePauw with 80 points. The Lady Pioneers collected 424 points en route to their best finish since 1990.

Marietta women take sixth and men eighth

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A trio of sophomores—Randi Robertson (Avon Lake), Kaity Smith (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Shannon McDonald (Lorain/Amherst Steele)—finished in the top 20 to lead the Marietta College women's cross country team to a sixth place finish at the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, which were hosted by John Carroll University Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon at Highland Park Golf Course. The Pioneer men took eighth at the event, which featured all 10 OAC institutions.

Ohio Northern's men (38 points) and Baldwin-Wallace's women (27 points) took home the team titles. The Pioneers' placements matched those of a year ago.

Marietta women run well in final tune up before OAC Championships
Pioneers take fourth at Elizabethtown 4k Invitational

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Marietta College women's cross country team traveled to the fourth annual Elizabethtown College Invitational Saturday (Oct. 20) morning for some final preparation before the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on October 27. The race was a 4k rather than the 6k that the Pioneers will run at OAC's.

Marietta went head-to-head with and faired well against some of the Mid-East Region's top teams on Saturday. The Pioneers totaled 146 points and averaged 16:02.20 to place fourth overall in the 16-team field. Shippensburg, a Division II school, won the meet with 60 points.

Pioneer women place seventh and men 15th at Carnegie Mellon Invitational
Cross Country has five athletes run collegiate bests

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Head Coach Derek Stanley's cross country team competed at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday (Oct. 13) morning. Both the men and women put together complete team efforts, which resulted in solid finishes at the meet.

The Pioneer women, who did not compete at last week's All-Ohio Championships to rest some injuries, compiled 199 points to place seventh in the 20-team field. Marietta's men finished with 367 points, which was good enough for 15th place in the 23-team competition.

Marietta men take 30th at All-Ohio Invitational
Pioneers take 14th in Division III

DELAWARE, Ohio — The cross country team represented Marietta College at the All-Ohio Championships Friday (Oct. 5) afternoon. The event, which featured 39 NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III and NAIA squads, was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Methodist Theological School.

With the women taking the weekend off to rest some injuries, the men carried to school’s flag to a 30th place finish overall (872 points), placing 14th among the 20 Division III teams. Both results matched that of 2005, which was the team’s best since being reinstated in 2002.

Marietta cross country races at 33rd annual Western International Invitational
Women take 12th and men place 15th at Canadian event

LONDON, Ontario — For the second time in three years, Head Coach Derek Stanley took his Marietta College cross country team north of the border to compete at the Western International Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Western Ontario and took place at the Thames Valley Golf Club.

The Pioneer women placed 12th with 340 point in the 5K race. Marietta's men, which ran a 10K instead of the 8K that they run in NCAA events, finished 15th with 458 points. In 2005, the men also took 15th, while the women did not have enough individuals to qualify for team scoring.

Otterbein sweeps 2007 Carl Broughton Invitational
Marietta men and women both finish second

MARIETTA, Ohio — 10 teams gathered at the Broughton Nature and Wildlife Education Area, just off the campus of Marietta College, for the 2007 Carl Broughton Invitational Saturday (Sept. 15) morning.

Otterbein College, as it did in 2003, swept the competition. The Cardinal men, paced by James Castrillo, who set a new meet record, compiled an impressive 20 points. Niki Reese led the Lady Cardinals, who finished with 30 points.

Marietta College placed second in both events with its men compiling 73 points and its women collecting 52 points. Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) College took third in both races after its men finished with 85 points and its women had 78 points.

Marietta College cross country opens season at Bill Sudeck Invitational
Pioneer women place eighth and men take tenth

HUNTINGTON VALLEY, Ohio — The Marietta College cross country season officially got underway Saturday (Sept. 1) morning when the team participated in the Bill Sudeck Invitational, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

Case Western won the women's competition, which was a 5k run, with 42 points. Edinboro took home the men's title with 27 points. The men ran an 8k. Marietta's women collected 224 points to finish eighth in the 14-team field. The Pioneer men, who earned 275 points, tied for 10th place in the 11-team competition.

Marietta looking to move up OAC standings this fall

MARIETTA, Ohio — With the expected return of nine lettermen on the men's team and five on the women's squad, Head Coach Derek Stanley's Marietta College cross country team is primed to make another move up the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) standings in 2007.

The Pioneer women, who placed sixth at the OAC Championships in 2006, return their top three runners—junior Jessi Larrison and sophomores Shannon McDonald and Kaity Smith. All placed in the top 25 at the Championships; McDonald (24:55.7) was 19th, Larrison (25:07.7) took 21st and Smith (25:16.3) finished 24th.
