MC Football holds initial First & Ten luncheon of the season

Aug. 29, 2005
MARIETTA, Ohio - The 2005 Marietta College football season officially kicked off Monday (Aug. 29) at noon with the first of 11 First & Ten Luncheons, held in the Trustee's Conference Room, inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

Coach Todd Glaser and his staff welcomed a room full of Pioneer faithful for the event. Following lunch, Glaser showed highlights of the team's scrimmage with Case Western Reserve (Aug. 27) and then talked about his outlook on the season (Listen).

He also talked about offensive coordinator Tony Jennison and defensive coordinator Curt Wiese (Listen), as well as how the team has built upon what they did last year (Listen).

The luncheons will continue each Monday at 12 p.m. throughout the season. Fans in attendance will get the coach's recap of the prior game and get a preview of that week's contest. Each week, a group of players will be in available for interviews and prizes are given away at the end of each gathering. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door each Monday.

The Pioneers will get to demonstrate their offseason improvements for the first time when they welcome Emory & Henry (VA) to Don Drumm Stadium for the River City Bowl —their season opener —Saturday (Sept. 3) at 7 p.m.

"The concept behind having the River City Bowl is for the College and football program to have a way of recognizing the College community and the Marietta community for its wonderful support," said Glaser, who was the Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2004.

Therefore the College has numerous pre-game activities planned to honor those attending the non-conference game. For starters, the College is having a tailgate for fans of both teams starting at 5:30 p.m. The tailgate, which is being sponsored by WMOA-AM and WJAW-FM radio stations, will include free soda, hot dogs, hamburgers and many other treats outside the stadium.

Other pre-game activities include face painting by members of Circle K and Chi Omega, balloon animals with Dana Baumgartl, and music by Mobile Jams. Also serving as sponsors for the River City Bowl are The Marietta Times and Chartwells Dining Service.

The College is also pleased to be giving the first 1,000 fans through the gates a River City Bowl T-shirt, which is sponsored by Muskingum Coach bus service.
