Two Pioneers named Academic All-OAC in football
Davis and Schumacher both earn Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2008

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office announced its 2008 Academic All-OAC Football Teams on Wednesday (Dec. 3) morning, and two Marietta College student-athletes earned league recognition. Junior defensive back George Davis (Warren/Newton Falls) and senior linebacker Jamie Schumacher (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) were both named Academic All-OAC honorable mention.
Davis, who converted from running back to strong safety in 2008, led the Pioneers’ defense in total tackles with 67 in 2008. The three-year letterwinner also paced the team with 45 solo hits. He posted a game-high and career-high 11 stops in Marietta’s win over rival Muskingum College in week eight. Davis also led the Pioneers in total tackles against Wilmington College, Baldwin-Wallace College and Mount Union College. In addition to leading the defensive secondary, Davis also spent time returning kickoffs in 2008. The junior averaged 24.8 yards on 17 returns this season. He had a 78-yard touchdown against Heidelberg College. Off the field, Davis maintains a 3.49 grade point average as a Petroleum Engineering major. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Earlier this year, Davis received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second team honors by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Schumacher started all 10 games at linebacker and finished seventh on the squad with 39 total tackles in 2008. He added 4.0 tackles for loss on the year. Schumacher, a three-year letterwinner, carries a 3.54 grade point average as a Journalism major.
Marietta, led by first-year Head Coach Jeff Filkovski, closed the year with a 2-8 record and was 1-8 in the OAC.
