Pioneers fall on the road to Capital 99-82

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Pioneers and their "Fun and Gun" hit to road for the final week of the season. First stop was Columbus Wednesday (Feb. 16) for showdown with Capital. Marietta was able to stay close early by hitting eight three-pointers in the first half, but Capital eventually pulled away for the 99-82 victory.
Marietta (3-21, 1-16 OAC) were led once again by Senior Matt Hines (Waverly/Eastern Pike), who scored a team-high 19 and moved into seventh place on Marietta's all-time scoring list with 1,420 points. He is 16 points shy of Matt Littlefield and sixth place with one game to play.
Freshman Craig Stewart (Circleville) and senior Chris Fulton (West Milton/Milton Union) each connected on four from deep and finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman Sam Rutherford (Newport/Frontier) also added double figures, finishing with 10 in the loss.
Capital was paced by David Johnson and Jake Beck with 24 points each; it was a career-best for Johnson, while Beck added 10 boards. Also finishing in double-figures was Eric Rosenbeck (14) and Jake Meisler (13).
Marietta, who has set single-season records in field goals attempted (2,101) and made (821), three-pointers attempted (1,123) and made (342), as well as steals (292), will close out the 2004-05 campaign at Wilmington on Saturday (Feb. 19). Tip-off with the Quakers is slated for 3 p.m. |
