Tenth year of Marietta's Coaches vs. Cancer program marked by team surpassing $50,000 in donations
$50,381.25 donated to the American Cancer Society over the last 10 seasons
Apr. 24, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — While the Marietta College men's basketball program has had its share of ups and downs on the court over the last decade, its effort has greatly benefited the American Cancer Society.
2005-06 marked the 10th year that Head Coach Doug Foote's squads have teamed up with the American Cancer Society in their annual Three Point Attack on cancer. The Pioneers raised over $4,800 this season to bring their 10-year total to $50,381.25.
Donations are made in a number of ways. All proceeds from Marietta and rival Muskingum's two regular season games, as well as all pledges per three-point fields goal made throughout the year go directly to the American Cancer Society.
Donation are used exclusively to fund the American Cancer Society-approved research, education and patient services in Ohio.
All donations are presented to The American Cancer Society in the name of Leslie Frye and Linda Marshall. Leslie and Linda were both foster parents, former MC employees and friends. Their memories serve as a perpetual inspiration for our team to continue the battle of Coaches vs. Cancer.
"I could never thank individually all the people that have been involved with making the three point attack a success," said Foote. "The donations to this cause have been so very much appreciated. I know the cure has not been found yet, but I believe our contributions to this cause have helped with the continual progress toward research to cure this horrible disease. I hope we continue to get this kind of support to do our part in fighting this deadly disease."
During the year, brochures can be picked up at all ticket tables, the concession stand, or in the athletics office. The form is also available on the men's basketball web site. On behalf of coach Foote, the team and the American Cancer Society, I thank you for joining the fight!
