UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Junior forward Kyle Reed
(Burbank/Northwestern) set a new career high with 15 points,
but John Carroll over powered Marietta College Saturday (Jan. 6)
afternoon, rolling to an 87-71 Ohio Athletic Conference victory.

The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 4-9 overall and 0-6 in Conference
play, while the Blue Streaks improve to 8-5, 4-2 in the OAC.
Marietta held the lead for most of the first five minutes; a Reed
lay-up at the 16:09 mark gave the Pioneers a 12-8 advantage. A three-pointer
by JCU's Terry Walsh sparked a 13-0 run over the
next three minutes and the Blue Streaks never trailed again.
The Pioneers pulled within five points, 38-33, on a basket by senior
Ryan Wilkinson (Wilmington/Clinton Massie) with
three minutes to go in the half, but another run sent JCU into intermission
leading 46-35.
The second half was dominated by the Blue Streaks as they shot
48% an cruised to the 16-point victory, its 10th straight over the
Pioneers.
Marietta finished the game shooting 21-of-55 (.382) from the floor,
7-of-20 (.350) from beyond the arc and 22-of-29 (.759) from the
line. John Carroll finished 27-of-56 (.482) from the field, 6-of-16
(.375) from long range and 27-of-40 (.675) from the charity stripe.
The Blue Streaks out rebounded the Pioneers 42-33 and forced 16
turnovers while giving the ball away to Marietta 14 times.
Sophomore guard Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern)
matched Reed's performance with 15 points. Reed also had a team-best
six boards. Wilkinson, sophomore Tyler Morando (Wheeling,
W.Va./Wheeling Central) and junior Matt Phillips (Williamson,
W.Va./Tug Valley) each contributed seven points in the loss.
John Carroll got a total team effort offensively with six players
reaching double figures, including all five starters. Pete
Moran and Brandon Mimes led the way with
15 points each.
Marietta continues its OAC schedule with a home game against rival
Muskingum College on Wednesday (Jan. 10) at 7:30 p.m. It is the
first of two Coaches vs. Cancer games with all proceeds going directly
to the American Cancer Society.
