Marietta men fall on the road to Heidelberg, 87-70
Three Pioneers reach double figures in the loss

Feb. 3, 2007
TIFFIN, Ohio — Heidelberg College made sure that Marietta College's biggest scoring threat, sophomore guard Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) didn't beat them and it worked, as the Student Princes limited him to four points, 10 off his season average, en route to a 87-70 victory over the visiting Pioneers Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon. [Box Score]

The win, improves Heidelberg's record to 13-8 overall and 9-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta falls to 5-16, 1-13 in the OAC.

With Creasap fighting off double teams when he wasn't being shadowed by Heidelberg's Greg Tyson, Marietta was forced to look elsewhere for scoring. Junior Kyle Reed (Burbank/Northwestern) had another solid game, finishing with a team-high 13 points. In addition, juniors Matt Phillips (Williamson, W.Va./Tug Valley) and Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) each added 10 points, but it was not enough to overcome the Student Princes' fire power.

Marietta finished the day 27-of-64 (.422) from the field, 8-of-22 (.364) from long range and 8-of-11 (.727) from the line. It turned the ball over 18 times and collected 34 rebounds. Heidelberg shot 32-of-65 (.492) from the floor, 12-of-28 (.429) from three-point range and 11-of-15 (.733) from the line. The Student Princes had 11 turnovers and 39 rebounds.

Ron Higgins paced Heidelberg with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Andrew Lemmon had 20 points and nine boards. In addition, Chad Szalay added 16 points and Shawn Shriver contributed 11 points.

Marietta held its only lead in the opening minute after senior Eric Lechlitner (Seven Hills/Normandy) hit a jumper to start off the scoring. Heidelberg led 44-29 at the half and by no less than 16 points in the second half.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Feb. 7) evening when they travel to New Concord for 7:30 p.m. match-up with rival Muskingum. It will be a Coaches vs. Cancer game.
