Marietta men fall to Wesley in a shootout at Gettysburg Tournament
Pioneers hit 18 three-pointers in 101-87 consolation game loss

Nov. 17, 2007
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — If Saturday (Nov. 17) afternoon's consolation game of the Days Inn Tip-off Tournament between Marietta College and Wesley (Del.) College had been a three-point contest, the Pioneers would have won 18-15. Unfortunately, the Wolverines got some help from inside the arc and were able to win the game, 101-87.

Marietta (0-2) connected on 18-of-39 (.469) three-point field goal attempts, finishing one shy of the school record, which was set four times during the 2004-05 season. The Pioneers finished the game 30-of-66 (.455) overall and added 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line. Wesley (1-1) went 32-of-65 (.492) from the floor, including 15-of-32 (.469) from long range, to go along with 22-of-30 (.733) from the line. The Wolverines out-rebounded the Pioneers 40-35 and had 15 turnovers as compared to Marietta's 16.

Junior sharp-shooter Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern), who finished with 23 points, hit seven from long range, while freshmen Jordan Cox (West Union) and Nathan Edick (Westerville/Thomas Worthington) both drilled five in the loss. Cox ended the game 17 points, while Edick had 15.

Senior center Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) provided some low-post balance as he finished with 11 points and a career-high14 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Jordan Johnson (Reynoldsburg) contributed eight points and seven assists in the loss.

Wesley had five players finish in double figures. Rashawn Johnson paced the way with 30 points and 11 boards. In addition, Dan Henry added 15 points, Evan Martin contributed 14 points and five assists, Alphonzo Wright finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Khyle Nelson had 11 points and eight boards.

Johnson opened the game by hitting a three-pointer to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. Marietta used an 8-2 run over the next 1:38 to take 10-5 advantage, its only lead of the game. Wesley followed with a 9-0 run over the four minutes to regain the advantage for good and led by as many as nine points before heading into the locker room with a 48-43 lead.

Wesley's lead grew to 20 points, 87-67, with 7:13 to play in the second half. Marietta responded with an 13-2 run over the next five minutes to bring the deficit back to single digits, 89-80, with 2:20 left to play but could not any closer.

Marietta is back in action Saturday (Nov. 24) when it takes on Medialle (N.Y.) in the first round of the Allegheny College Tournament in Meadville, Pa. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WMRT-FM 88.3 and available online at http://pioneers.marietta.edu/onlinebroadcasts.html.
