Pioneer Men drop decision to Medaille (Pa.), 94-83, in Allegheny Tournament
Marietta to play in consolation game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Nov. 24, 2007
MEADVILLE, Pa. — Despite an early second half surge, the Pioneers fell to Medaille (Pa.) College 94-83 in the first round of the Allegheny (Pa.) College Tournament. The loss drops the Pioneers record to 0-3 while Medaille improved to 3-0.

The Pioneers, who were without their leading scorer Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) due to an ankle sprain, trailed 41-31 at the half. They used a 25-8 run early in the second half to take a 55-49 lead with 14 minutes left. Eventually, Marietta cooled off, and Medaille used a steady attack to build their lead back up to a many as 14 to secure the victory.

Senior center Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) led all scorers with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rockhold is now averaging a double-double on the season. Picking up the slack for the missing Creasap were the freshman duo of Jordan Cox (West Union) and Nathan Edick (Westerville/Thomas Worthington). Cox had 18 points while Edick added 15.

Medaille was led by James McNiel with 18 points and Reed Ricky who chipped in 15 points.

For the game Marietta finished 30-of-65 (.462) from the field, including 12-of-27 (.444) from long range. The Pioneers added 11-of-20 (.550) from the line and turned the ball over 22 times. Medaille shot 30-of-61 (.492) from the floor, including 7-of-17 (.412) from beyond the arc, to go along with 27-of-35 (.771) from the line. Medaille out-rebounded Marietta 39-37 and finished with 18 turnovers.

Marietta is back in action on Sunday when it takes on Penn State-Dubois (Pa.) in the consolation game. The Lions fell to host Allegheny, 103-58, in the second first round game on Saturday. The tip is scheduled for 1 pm. The game will be broadcast live on WMRT-FM 88.3 and available online at http://pioneers.marietta.edu/onlinebroadcasts.html.
