Four Pioneers score double figures in Marietta's 86-82 victory at Baldwin-Wallace
Creasap leads attack with game-high 26 to give Coach VanderWal first OAC win

BEREA, Ohio — Junior Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) poured in a game-high 26 points and received plenty of help from his fellow starters as Marietta College's men's basketball team got into the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) win column with an 86-82 victory at Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Jan. 19) afternoon. The win, which snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets, improved the Pioneers' record to 5-10 overall and 1-7 in the OAC. Baldwin-Wallace fell to 5-10, 1-6 in league play.

Baldwin-Wallace jumped out to an early 14-5 lead just 3:25 into the action. The Yellow Jackets kept the lead throughout the first half, stretching it to as many as 12 before taking a 45-41 lead into intermission.

The Yellow Jackets extended their advantage back to eight, 53-45, with 18:07 remaining in the game and held the same eight-point lead, 60-52, at the 15:46 mark of the second half. Marietta, however, used a 15-0 run over the next 4:28 to take control, 67-60. Creasap led the comeback with eight points, while senior Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) added six points during the stretch. The Pioneers never relinquished the lead the rest of the way, although the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 77-77 with 3:03 to play. Marietta, however, closed the game on a 9-5 run to seal the victory.

Overall both teams shot the ball well from the floor. Marietta went 33-of-58 (.569) from the field, including 8-of-16 (.500) from long range, to go along with 12-of-21 (.571) from the line. Baldwin-Wallace shot 33-of-70 (.471) on the day, including 8-of-25 (.320) from deep, to go along with 8-of-9 (.889) from the line. Marietta out rebounded Baldwin-Wallace 37-32, while the Yellow Jackets won the turnover battle, 9-15.

Creasap added a team-high five assists to his 26-point effort. Rockhold finished with 21 points and nine rebounds. Junior Daun Lutes (New Matamoras/Frontier) also pitched in with 15 points and seven boards, while freshman Jordan Cox (West Union) had 10 points in the win.

Brendan Schuler paced Baldwin-Wallace with 21 points and eight assists. Kyle Brown (16), Louis Tumblin (11) and Andrew Bene (10) also reached double figures in the scoring column. Tumblin also added 10 rebounds.

Marietta will look to carry the momentum into its OAC battle with first place Capital University on Wednesday (Jan. 23) evening. Tip-off in Columbus is slated for 7 p.m.
