No. 8 Capital tops Marietta men 82-50
Pioneers visit Heidelberg on Saturday at 3 p.m.

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men’s basketball team dropped its latest decision to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe No. 8 Capital Crusaders, 82-50, Wednesday (Feb. 6) night at Fenton Court. The loss drop the Pioneers’ record to 6-14 overall and 2-11 in the OAC. With the win Capital retains first place in the OAC, improving to 17-3 overall and 12-1 in the Conference.

Marietta was led by Bradley Hinton (McDonald) with nine points off the bench. Blaine Carey (Akron/Barberton) also came off the bench and scored eight points for the Pioneers. Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) scored seven points to go along with Adam Rockhold's (Olmsted Falls) 10 rebounds in the loss.

Capital was led by Steve Kyser's 15 points and five rebounds. All 15 points came in the first half. Quinton Mitchell came off the bench to score 12 points and also grabbed five rebounds, while Ryan Wood scored 11 points in the victory.

Capital showed why they were ranked No. 8in the country as it came out on fire early with a 12-0 run to silence the crowd at Fenton Court. Capital would stretch its lead to 16-3 before the Pioneers battled back with a 12-3 run over the next five minutes to cut the lead to four, 19-15. After trading buckets for the next few minutes, Capital would get back on track and take a 37-26 lead into the locker room at half. The Crusaders put the game away early in the second half with a 25-1 run to put the score 62-27. Capital would lead at one point by 40 and went on to win by 32, 82-50.

Marietta finished 19-of-58 (.328) from the field, 4-of-21 (.190) from behind the arc and 8-of-10 (.800) from the free throw line. Capital finished 29-of-59 (.492) from the field, 10-of-20 (.500) from three and 14-of-32 (.438) from the free throw line. Capital out rebounded the Pioneers 49-30 and held the edge in turnovers committing 15 to Marietta’s 18.

The Pioneers will travel to Tiffin, Ohio, to take on Heidelberg College on Saturday (Feb. 9) afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
