MARIETTA, Ohio — Head Coach Jon VanderWal’s men's basketball team shot a season-high 62.8% and received a solid effort from its bench in Saturday (Jan. 17) afternoon’s 71-59 win over visiting Baldwin-Wallace College. Baldwin-Wallace managed to cut the lead to single digits twice in the second half. The Pioneers, however, answered every Yellow Jacket run with a big basket and they went on to win by 12 points, 71-59, in front of their home crowd.

Freshman Trevor Halter (Malvern) paced the Pioneers with 19 points and six rebounds. Fellow freshmen Kevin Knab (Lakewood) and Rydell Chrisman (Coshocton) both added 12 points. Andrew Bene led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and eight rebounds. Louis Tumblin scored 11 points, while Paul Glass chipped in with 10 points.

Marietta connected on 27-of-43 (.628) from the field, 8-of-14 (.571) from three-point range and 9-of-15 (.600) from the free throw line. Baldwin-Wallace went 22-of-69 (.319) from the field, 0-of-13 (.000) from behind the arc and 15-of-25 (.600) from the free throw. The Yellow Jackets held the edge in rebounding, 39-34, and in turnovers. Baldwin-Wallace finished with nine, while Marietta overcame 17.
